In cooperation with researchers from the Institute of Art History at the Ruhr University Bochum, the Josef Albers Museum Quadrat Bottrop is showing a group exhibition exploring the historical as well as current questions in artistic discourses on care work.

The works presented in Cooking Cleaning Caring. Care Work in the Arts since 1960 bring together videos, photographs, installations and paintings by international artists. It engages with the social, economic and political significance as well as the visibility of a form of work that is mostly performed by women. Thus, for the first time, an overview of the artistic exploration of care work in a global context is created, which also includes the specific local perspective of the Ruhr region as a “region of work”.
