Apollo’s Standard

Maria Pinińska-Bereś:

I took a long time to embroider an Apollo image on a flag using white cordonnet. I entered a room where the public was gathered and threw the flag on the floor. After removing my shoes, I painted my feet pink and walked around, leaving footprints, and then I stepped on the flag, leaving traces there too. I actually tiptoed on the flag, considering it a more feminine thing to do, which also meant that there were more traces. The “trampling” part now complete, I tore a part of the rag from the shaft, furled it, and wrote, “Żegnaj Appolinie” [Farewell, Apollo]. First there was an act of adoration and the trampling as a performance, and then its traces on the flag.
