Sculptor’s Altar

April 1976

BWA gallery, Kraków

Manifestation description:

The exhibition hall of the BWA Gallery in Cracow. At the show “Sculpture of the Year 1976”, among the exhibited works of art, there is a stump with an axe stuck in it. Next to the axe lies a small wooden peg. Action. The artist waits for the members of the Commission to arrive. He is dressed in his usual way. When the Jury walks in, he takes off his jacket and rolls up his shirt sleeves. With black paint he paints a ring at the base of the index finger of one hand. Immediately after, with a sharp blow of the axe, he cuts off a piece from the peg corresponding to the length of the finger. He repeats similar steps for the other nine fingers. Finally, he picks up the chopped off pegs from the floor and nails them to the stump. He lowers the rolled-up sleeves of his shirt, puts on his jacket and leaves the hall collecting the axe and paint on his way out.
