4 VI 2004

Performance Art Center, Cultural Center, Lublin
as part of the European Performance Art Festival ( 3 – 6VI )

Description of the manifestation:

Location: In the hall, two small tables covered with white linen stand side by side. On the first lie slices of bread; on the second are vodka and vodka glasses. Between the tables, against the wall, stands a chair with a bowl of warm water and soap. A tripod stands in the center of the hall.

Action: The artist enters covered only with a towel tied around his waist. He declares that the aim of the action is to create material documents of the event and that, at the end of the action, he will ask the audience to help authenticate these documents by signing them.

He stands at the first table, paints slices of bread with blue paint, and arranges them in a rosette on the tablecloth. He paints seven slices fully and the eighth halfway. He turns his back to the audience and writes the number 74 on his back, stating that this is his age. He then applies blue paint to one hand and presses it against the other, leaving handprints on the white tablecloth on either side of the bread rosette. He approaches the chair with the bowl, washes his hands, and dries them with the towel around his hips. Standing naked, he unfurls a previously prepared European Union flag and hangs it on the tripod in the center of the room. He applies white and red paint to his penis and presses a white-and-red mark into the center of the EU flag. He then approaches the table with the vodka. As he pours vodka into the glasses, he simultaneously divides his body with horizontal red lines from head to toe. Finally, he takes a glass and invites those present to drink a toast and sign the white tablecloth. Those present accept the invitation and, with numerous signatures, authenticate the documents of the event. The artist places a flower in an empty bottle and sets it in front of the EU flag.
