Transfiguration III: Author’s Altar

Galeria BWA, Lublin
Manifestation description:
In the middle of the exhibition hall there is a square formed from four concrete paving slabs. A wooden block, an axe are placed in the square, next to it sheets of gray paper and cups with paint. The artist enters the space and stops by the slabs, on his hips he has two pieces of wood forming a girdle. A rope is tied to these two pieces of wood. The artist fastens the other end of the rope in the center of the square formed by the paving slabs: he clamps the inserted end with the slabs. He then paints his feet with blue paint and walks around the slabs, imprinting a circle of blue marks. The radius of the circle is determined by the length of the rope. He places the blue signature on a gray sheet of paper and puts the sheet on the concrete slabs. He repeats these steps using red, yellow and green paint in succession. When the last sheet is placed on the slabs, he unties the woods at his hips, removes the rope and throws them outside the colored circle of footprints. Naked, he walks to the center of the circle, paints a vertical line on his body with black paint, takes a block of wood and cuts it in half. He repeats these actions until the block is divided into small slivers. He then kneels down next to the slabs, crumples the sheets of paper he signed beforehand, draping them over the wood slivers and asks for matches. He waits a while until the fire begins to burn with a strong flame, then asks those gathered to watch the fire and leaves the room.
